Sustainable energy is defined as energy produced and used in such a way that it "meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Join this breakout session to hear ideas on how the Island of Hawaiʻi can meet the current needs of our island by incorporating innovation and current available alternative energy sources.

Energy Specialist - County of Hawaiʻi
Riley has had a multi-faucet career in the private sector prior to serving with the County. Began a 16-year career with Hyatt Hotels following graduation from the University of Hawaiʻi, Mānoa School of Travel Industry Management. This period resulted in three mini careers in Food and Beverage, Information Technology, ending up in Finance. He then served as Corporate Controller, Vice President at Mauna Lani Resort which operates the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows, The Francis H. I‘I Brown Golf Course, and Mauna Lani Spa. He left Mauna Lani to join SunPower Corporation and worked for over a decade to shape Hawai‘i ‘s clean energy future through legislative, policy, and business development initiatives. He establishes a consulting business in renewable energy prior to joining the County.
