Cost of Government Commission

Purpose: The objective is to study and investigate the organizations and methods of operation of all departments, commissions, boards, offices, and other instrumentalities within all branches of county government. This investigation aims to identify any necessary changes to better align with the county's policy. Following the analysis, a comprehensive report detailing the findings and recommendations must be submitted to the Mayor, the Managing Director, and the County Council.

**Authority:** Hawaii County Charter, Article V, Chapter 2

**Appointment:** Members are appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Council. Commission members begin their terms one year after the start of the Mayor's term and serve for eleven months.

**Full Membership:** Nine Members

**Specific Representation:** One member from each council district

**Meetings:** No specific requirements

**Qualities:** Members should be respected by the community as community-minded and oriented. They must be able to address the needs of the community as a whole, without favoring special or self-interests.
