About Us
The Hawaiʻi Island Youth Commission is a dedicated group of young individuals who are passionate about making a positive impact in our community. Our mission is to provide a platform for youth voices to be heard and to actively participate in decision-making processes that affect young people on the island.
We believe that the youth of Hawaiʻi Island have unique perspectives and valuable contributions to make. By amplifying their voices and empowering them to get involved, we aim to create a brighter future for all.
What We Do
As a commission, we engage in various activities and initiatives to address the needs and concerns of youth. Some of our key responsibilities include:
- Advocating for youth issues and interests to policymakers and community leaders: We work tirelessly to ensure that the concerns and interests of young people are taken into account when decisions are being made that affect them. We actively engage with policymakers and community leaders to advocate for policies and programs that benefit the youth of Hawaiʻi Island.
- Organizing events and workshops to promote youth empowerment and leadership development: We believe in the power of education and skill-building to empower young people. That's why we organize events and workshops that provide opportunities for youth to develop leadership skills, enhance their personal growth, and explore their passions.
- Collaborating with local organizations and agencies to create opportunities for youth involvement: We understand that creating meaningful change requires collaboration. We work closely with local organizations, agencies, and community partners to create opportunities for youth involvement in community projects, initiatives, and decision-making processes.
- Conducting research and gathering data on youth-related topics to inform policy recommendations: We believe in evidence-based decision-making. Our commission conducts research and gathers data on a wide range of youth-related topics, such as education, mental health, employment, and civic engagement. This allows us to provide informed policy recommendations to policymakers and community leaders.
