Family Violence Advisory Commission

Purpose:
To advise the Mayor on issues and concerns related to family domestic violence. This commission shall promote public awareness, encourage and facilitate inter-agency training, and provide the impetus for preventive measures and education directed to the community at large.

Authority:
County of Hawaii, Hawaii County Charter Section 4-4.
Ordinance 97-111 dated August 29, 1997.

Appointment:
Mayor, no Council confirmation required. Tenure will be co-terminus with the appointing Mayor.

Full Membership:
Minimum nine (9), but not to exceed fifteen (15).

Specific Representation:
No specific requirement; however, county-wide representation should be considered.

Meetings:
As required by FVAC by-laws.

Financial Disclosure:
Required for advisory board/commission members if requested.

Reappointment:
Per Mayor's discretion.

Qualities:
Respected by the community as being community-minded and oriented. Able to focus on the community needs as a whole without catering to special or self-interest.
